Polariton superfluid

No, it's not bad science fiction or hackneyed Treknology. It comes from the University of Pittsburg and permits the emission of a "pure light beam similar to a laser".

Fascinating, to say the least.

Usually I have some clever commentary related to the potential value of new developments as they are reported by science news organizations, but the potential use of polariton superfluids is a bit beyond me. It may well have some application in the new energy field somewhere down the road . . . possibly in laser-induced hot fusion? Still, it does sound very interesting.

If only I knew what a polariton really was.
