Technology 2020

Wade graciously pointed out this group of dedicated technology evangelists from the Knoxville area. We may wish to open communications with this group in the future once our own rests on a more solid, tangible foundation (which should be soon, or so I'd think). They may have some resources available to jump-start our own operation here in Chattanooga.

Wait, Techology 2020 (along with Chattanooga Technology Council, Nashville Technology Council, and Memphis Technology Council) is interested in "technology" and "businesses," not necessarily in energy innovations or energy alternatives, as we are. You said it yourself, "dedicated technology evangelists." If you read the mission statements of these four, you'll see that technology councils are ALL focused on helping technology businesses, which need not be energy related:

(1) Chattanooga Technology Council (CTC) is the focal point for technology and related initiatives in the community. The CTC is a non-profit organization devoted to promoting the growth of technology businesses and education throughout the greater Chattanooga area.

(2) Memphis Technology Council (MTC) is a matrix organization bringing together businesses, organizations, and educational institutions to promote information technology and biotechnology initiatives that will result in regional economic growth. MTC serves as a catalyst between the business and education communities to better develop a technologically enabled workforce.

(3) Nashville Technology Council (NTC) is an exclusive organization devoted to promoting the technology businesses throughout the greater Nashville area. The NTC's mission is to grow technology jobs in Middle Tennessee.

(4) Oak Ridge Tech 2020 (ETTC or IVTC) can't decide who they are. On their masthead, they call themselves East Tennessee Technology Council, but click on that and their mission says: "The mission of the Innovation Valley Technology Council is to build an interactive association of businesses and entrepreneurs that will drive the region’s economy in the 21st century. The Tech Council is a resource organization interested in helping companies prosper and promoting the use of technology to meet their business needs." Either way, their purpose is to help businesses with technology.

These are lumped under Tennessee's Technology Development, found here:
http://www.state.tn.us/ecd/techdev.htm

Our interests are included under Tennessee's Energy Division, found here:
http://www.state.tn.us/ecd/energy.htm

Consider a Venn diagram, with two overlapping circles. Imagine one circle contains these tech councils, then imagine the other circle contains all the groups interested in energy innovation and alternatives to the current energy situation. There's an overlap in the center, but technology is NOT our primary interest and energy is NOT their primary concern.

The interests of the Chattanooga Energy Hub falls into the second category. Our latest mission statement can be summarized this way: "The Chattanooga Energy Hub shall (1) identify energy innovations, (2) promote energy alternatives, and (3) provide a networking community." If you want to explore more energy links and look at energy innovations and groups working on energy alternatives, please join me in networking on our new blog, Chattanooga Area Network on Energy here:
http://chattanoogaareanetwork
onenergy.blogspot.com (take out any spaces).

Consider the new blog part of our networking efforts. I have energy links in the sidebar, and I plan to publish something every day or two so that we keep all of our ideas together.

An interesting point. I'd like to see Wade's response to this myself.

I think technological development and energy development go hand in hand in most cases, though technology itself covers a much broader spectrum of topics as you pointed out.

Although technology and energy go hand-in-hand, our focus is and has to be "green" in every regard. We must never lose sight of alternative, environmentally friendly energy.

We must also know if there are other environmentally friendly alternative energy groups with a mission and vision like our own. We do not want to duplicate another group that may be already in place, up and running with plenty of resources (legal, environmental, financial, a clean work flow process, etc.).
